Description
Starting in early 1949 SPE Co. Ltd built 3000 steel sided reefers for PFE. They were assigned the following car numbers 2001-5000. 1500 were assembled in LA, 500 at Colton and 1000 in Roseville. They featured r+3-3 early improved dreadnaught ends (rolling pin). Welding was used for the underframe construction and the cars rode on American Steel Foundry’s A3 Ride Control Trucks. Preco FK6 mechanical fans were installed as built. Other distinct features included in this design were taller doors and diagonal panel roofs.
